D&AD has made a bold move with this years D&AD annual. Luke Sanders, a recent graduate was given the task to design it. He created the members limited edition together with Peter Saville, who art directed.

“Garrick Hamm created the opportunity for me to guide Luke through the design of this year’s Annual as a way for us to express D&AD’s educational program through practice.  The aesthetic of the design has been inspired and informed by the statistics of D&AD’s many activities and achievements.‘Peter Saville (via d&ad blog)

The book is beautifully made with simple and minimalistic aesthetics. Fold covers are used to separate the different sections. So there are four “magazines” making up one book. The “magazines” split into; Advertising, Design, Crafts and Digital. The front cover illustration is related to the works of D&AD, as a statistic. Awards 30%; Online Content & Community 27%; Student Education 17%; Annual 5%; Professional Development 13%; Exhibitions & Lectures 8%.

“I’m extremely thankful to D&AD who believe so wholeheartedly in their message of education that they would risk innumerable problems and potential disaster by nurturing an unknown to design their Annual,Luke Sanders (via Creative review)

Taschen will publish a hardback verion (designed by Jeremy Leslie) in early 2010 available to everyone. It will be published in 6 languages and distributed worldwide.
